STAR reissue dodgy ticket agent warning

Following recent warnings from Festival Republic about all the dodgy people selling fake Reading and Leeds festival tickets, now the The Society Of Ticket Agents And Retailers have warned music fans about buying tickets from unofficial websites.
STAR are worried that consumers will be ripped off by dodgy ticketing operations, rather than being ripped off by the legitimate ticket agencies affiliated with the trade body. But at least STAR members actually have access to the tickets they are selling, even if they plonk exorbitant fees on top even when you print out your own ticket or pay cash at the venue.
The advice given out by STAR is mainly common sense stuff that has been published by the ticketing sector before. Check an event's official website for details of 'promoter approved ticketing agencies'; only buy from websites that give the operator's physical address; only buy if a website provides all relevant info, including dates, venues, seating type; and look out for payment protection symbols that normally have a padlock in them (and use credit cards rather than debit cards, because you get more protection). And, of course, STAR recommend you only buy from STAR-affiliated agents, before adding that if a ticket offer seems "too good to be true" (eg a website is selling loads of tickets for sold out events), it probably is.
STAR man Jonathan Brown says this: "It's very easy to create a website that looks classy and reputable, but that doesn't mean it's law-abiding or will definitely supply you with what you think you are buying. People need to be vigilant in the run up to the festival season. Look for the warning signs, and if in doubt, make sure you buy from a member of STAR. If you see the STAR mark, you can expect excellent service, transparent pricing and an independent means of redress if anything goes wrong".

Reading & Leeds Festivals have warned fans that a ream of fake ticket

The organisers of the Reading & Leeds Festivals have warned fans that a ream of fake ticket sites have popped up on the internet.
The festival has had trouble with fake websites in the past, and this year they have already taken down two website that were offering tickets under the guise of being official outlets, but were actually just websites stealing people’s information.
"It has been widely reported that there are many fake sites for all this summer's festivals," Festival Republic said in a statement "This particular scam involves people registering for free tickets and is essentially a third party phishing personal information such as email addresses."
Organisers are urging people searching for tickets to only use official outlets and not to try to find tickets in potentially damaging places.
The festivals are due to be headlined byGuns N Roses, Blink 182 and Arcade Fireand take place on the weekend of 27-29 August.

READING AND LEEDS FESTIVAL TO EXPAND TO FOREIGN SOIL

THE Reading and Leeds festivals, this year featuring stars like Axl Rose are set to expand to a third site – on foreign soil. Their promoter Melvin Benn told me: “We may well develop a site but probably not in the UK.
“It’s more than a dream but I can’t say where it will be. I’d like maybe to set it up for next year.”
However, Melvin admits: “There’s no point in taking Reading and Leeds to an exotic location. It needs to be somewhere appropriate and exotic wouldn’t be appropriate.”

Reading And Leeds Festival Organisers Warn Over Fake Ticket Sites

The organisers of Reading Festival andLeeds Festival are urging music fans hoping to attend either event to only buy tickets from authorised outlets listed on their websites. The company behind both bashes, Festival Republic, said it closed down two bogus fan pages that claimed to offer free Reading tickets last week. Apparently, both fake sites were 'phishing' operations designed to gain personal information from users, such as email addresses. official ticket agents, partners and web pages are listed under the Tickets section. The organisers also keeping people up to date with the latest news on potential fraudsters. They have listed a vast number of unauthorised sites and agents, but warn others are constantly being set up. In a statement released April 21, the organisers said, "Please do not register with any third party claiming to represent Reading and Leeds Festival, if you are unsure please call the information line 0207 009 3001."
